A Dear Friend

Well today has been a very very rough day. A dear friend of ours passed away today which has been very hard. she was also a student of my husband Alex. He is a Golf Coach and Pro Golfer and Joan was one of his students.

Joan was British and she was in the British Military many years ago. She was one tough cookie and she showed that over the last 5 years or so.

About 5 years or so ago Joan was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and given 6 months but she fought so hard. Joan underwent over 100 chemo treatments and a matter of fact I think she was nearing about 120, the docs were amazed and said it was a record and they wanted to put her n the Guinness Records but she wouldn't have it. Joan also had to undergo numerous blood transfusions.Well Jean was undergoing all these transfusions and Chemo treatments she always found time to golf and paint she was an artist after all. There were days where Joan was just so tired she didn't want to do much but she still came out to the golf curse with her Chemo bottle around her waist and played on.

We received a call a day or two ago saying that Joan had gotten some sort of an infection and of course with her immune being down she was not healing well. Alex's Golf Coach John (Joan's Husband) said she may only have about 48 hours to go. So we started preparing but what happened next was not something we prepared for fast enough at least i didn't.

I was at work today (Oct 5) and my husband received a call from john well he was at work. Joan had taken a turn for the worse and was luck to make it 24hrs. It was hard to hear Joan was like family, as a matter of fact we called her "mama bear" it was such a fitting name to something like her. Anyways, Alex picked me up at 4pm and brought me home and of course I ask Alex how she is, he was informed by John that unfortunately she doesn't have long. So we are prepping we know within the next 24hrs we are more than likely going to get a call.

Fast forward a few hours to about 1030pm Alex's cell rings, the call display is John, of course we know she isn't doing well giving us updates but that wasn't the case. John was calling us to let us know Joan had passed away. She passed away at 230pm about 30mins after John called. The devastation hits, we knew it was coming but not that quick, our hearts are breaking we will never see this amazing woman again the cancer got her finally.

She was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and was given 6 months but that won't happen she tells herself, while she is being treated for the Colon Cancer she gets Skin Cancer as well. I had my nails done for Breast Cancer as it is Breast Cancer Awareness month but after this devastating news I removed the Breast Cancer mani and redid it in memory of Joan for Colon and Skin Cancer.

The blue ribbon is for Colon Cancer, the Black Ribbon for the skin cancer and the Gold is for the colour of heart she had.
